Secretary Jewell to Participate in International Climate Conference in Paris

November 24, 2015

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will join President Obama and other Cabinet officials to represent the United States at the 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) climate negotiations in Paris, France during the first week of December.

During her visit, Secretary Jewell will lead discussions at the U.S. Center related to what the United States and partners are doing to help communities adapt and prepare for the impacts of climate change. On December 1, Jewell will lead a panel discussion on climate resilience, focusing on shared challenges and opportunities from the Arctic to the Pacific Islands. On December 2, Jewell will lead a panel discussion exploring innovative ways developing countries are addressing climate change mitigation and carbon sequestration in diverse landscapes, including wetlands and grasslands. Both panels will be live-streamed and additional information is available at www.state.gov/uscenter.

COP21, also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, convenes world leaders to achieve a global agreement to address the pressing issue of climate change. The United States is seeking an agreement that would reflect ambitious climate targets from participating countries, solidify a long-term framework to encourage countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and mobilize financial and technical support for low-carbon development and climate adaptation.
